So if this is even a good idea it's still not necessarily something that has to happen this year, but...
I was wondering how interested any of you out there in the community would be in going together to...
Because as many of you likely know, November is NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, the month in which a bunch of geeky writers attempt to make themselves write a 50,000 word novel in a single month. The novels tend to be crap, but the point is people do it, socialize with other people doing it, have some fun, and, you know, finish something for once.
So I was thinking. 10 Nishura boys paired all possible ways = 45 + Hamada/Izumi, Haruna/Abe, Kanou/Mihashi, Junta/Kazuki, Rio/Junta = 50. And 50,000 word novel/50 pairings = 1000 WORDS OF GRATUITOUS SEX PER PAIRING.
So if everyone gets together and takes upon themselves 1 or more pairings, we could have ourselves a crappy Oofuri NOVEL. Our novel would not actually qualify for Nanowrimo I'm sure, being written by more than one person, but teamwork is more rewarding. ^_^
Would...anyone be intersted? Issues/questions include:
1. Would enough people actually do this to be even moderately worth attempting? ^_^;
2. November's half over. Do next year? Or this year and probably fail but learn stuff to refine the process for next year?
3. Is it pointless if we don't share when done? Optional? Part of the appeal of Nanowrimo surely is the not sharing your hurriedly written crap novel. And forcing sharing will make it harder to get people to participate. Plus some of those pairings will be just... ^_^;
4. Connect the stories in some way? Might add a little extra fun/cooperation/make it less like a big heaping pile of drabbles.
5. Require the two characters to be in a romantic relationship, allow platonic relationship exploration, or even allow just having them be the mains in the story?
Remember, even if you are crap at writing, people would still be thankful for you if you wrote one of the WTF pairings since then you're taking it off the other writers' hands. ^_~
Any feedback (especially the sort telling me to stop messing around like this and procrastinating on the real Nanowrimo) welcome. |

I have an announcement: my next book (working title, The Goblin Emperor) will be published by a new publisher under a different name.
As You Know, O Internet-Bob, my sales with Ace were disappointing, which resulted in Ace deciding they did not want to publish me any longer. It also resulted in those disappointing sales figures being irretrievably associated with my name in the computers of the big chain book-buyers. And that, in turn, means that those big chain book-buyers--who are the people publishers have to sell to (Remember that. Everything makes more sense if you remember that publishers aren't actually selling books to readers; they're selling books to bookstores, and the bookstores with the clout to determine what publishers can and can't sell are the big chains.)--are not interested in buying any books associated with the name "Sarah Monette."
Ergo, my new publisher Tor, in order to do an end-run around the computers, will be publishing me under a new name: Katherine Addison.
This is not a "rebranding": the book Katherine Addison is writing for Tor is the same book Ace rejected from Sarah Monette. It also, obviously, isn't a secret; neither Tor nor I see any point in hiding from people who liked my first four books where they can find the next one.
I don't know the publication date yet, but my deadline is February 1, 2010. So you know where I'll be if you want me.
Please feel free to ask questions, although I don't promise I'll be able to answer you, and, as the Bartles & Jaymes guys used to say, we thank you for your support.

Things are bad enough with global climate change, but when aliens or some extraterrestrial force suddenly decides to rain in on Earth switching humanity’s internal suicide clocks on, then I start thinking…Al Gore was not looking deep enough into the future with his projections of doom!
In ALIVE volume 2, people are no longer killing themselves. Instead they are putting their murderous intent into action by killing others. Taking the idea of haves and have nots to an extreme, young people whose biological clocks have turned on have decided to speed up evolution and are congregating up north to plan the ultimate end of the homo sapiens sapiens. Luckily for all of us some of these newtypes are shounen, so they are instinctually programmed to fight for good and friendship, and eventually convert their former enemies into honorable citizens in the process.
ALIVE started off crazy–crazy good. It reminded me of seinen sci-fi with twists of 60’s and 70’s horror. Unfortunately, it has quickly moved into standard shounen fare and I am starting to lose interest. It’s lead never really resonated with me, so I was looking forward to more from the supporting cast, which was removed from any significant page time this volume. And the action… Well it is poorly rendered despite the author’s creative concepts esper-jitsu. So what was too good for shounen is now not up to par with the better boys titles out there. Sigh.

lol, whoopsies, looks like sensei meant the other bit about lobbying for Rules as a joke and didn't actually mean for us to go through with it, as it would lead to all kinds of trouble. She says:
"I'm really gratefull that everyone's so supportive, but I meant that as a joke. It would cause the publishers a lot of inconvenience if you really wrote to them. They are still in talks with the American publishers, and I will let you know when anything is decided. Thank you, everyone"
So no writing to Japanese publishers, please! But thanks to everyone for showing so much support. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed instead ^-^ |

Hello all ~
Sorry about the delayed posting. Overall, I only got 5 parcels for Miyamoto-sensei. All of which were forwarded to Ayonoi at the con and she subsequently presented them to the sensei at her panel. The panel was pretty crowded - to those who had to endure the small room (sorry, that was the only room that was available for use at the 1PM slot) - thank you for being patient! Miyamoto-sensei did indeed feel very touched and loved by all the western fans who came to see her! She was very worried at one point that no one would even know who she was, much less show up at her panel. So thank you to those who came and supported her.
Miyamoto-sensei did convey that she will come to Yaoi-con again next year, since she had a great time! Barring sudden change in her publication dates and schedules that might keep her from coming. Fingers crossed.^^

Has anyone read a fan fiction in which Hikaru, Yuki,Tooru and Atori from Rules all get it on? I remember it being pretty steamy (and somewhat OOC), but I do not remember the title, nor who wrote it. Ring a bell for anyone?
